A friendly reminder to all who post on HC...

From time to time we see posts from apparently informed individuals (remember we have no way of knowing if they are actually individuals at all), that appear to be posting misleading information disguised as factual and/or highly detailed analysis.

The problem is...it is often hard for the majority of posters to ascertain the difference between genuine offerings that may have simply missed the mark (or made inadvertent errors)...from the more sinister types of posts that are clearly calculated to be misleading from the outset.

Generally, a quick look at one’s posting history can help determine intent, but not always.

Importantly, if you ever read something that you feel in any way impacts your decision process (good or bad), it is always a good idea to refer to the Company's official market communications via the ASX for clarification...this is the only reliable source of accountable information from the Company.

If you are still unsure you could contact the Company directly (most Companies welcome questions from genuine shareholders)...or if after all this you are still in doubt, you should perhaps consider seeking professional advice.

I am involved in the Exploration/Mining industry, as such from time to time I notice posts that could be otherwise described as somewhat misleading...some more blatant than others. I am sure people from other industries also frequent HC and must also identify similarly constructed posts from time to time, perhaps obvious to them given their particular fields of expertise or knowledge.

The purpose of this post is to remind anyone considering posting less than genuine information, and in particular misleading information by design...to be aware of their responsibilities when posting.

In this regard I highly recommend they read the HC posting guidelines before hitting the “Post Message” button next time.

We should all be encouraged to have a go at working things out and posting our thoughts on HC...right or wrong (this is what HC is for)...but we need to be aware that when we start claiming our statements to be "fact" (especially when we claim to have relevant expertise), that we should be very VERY careful how we do this and what this means if litigation were to eventuate as an unintended consequence.

Opinion and interpretations are one thing...they are free and everyone has them...but creating an intentionally misleading post using false claims of factuality, or even via carefully constructed error, is another matter entirely.

It can be a fine line...but to assume the latter goes unrecognised is a mistake.

Intentionally misleading posts are a very serious matter as they show clear intent (important legally)...and may expose the poster to unintended litigation.

This is why misleading posts are against the posting guidelines.

Nobody is anonymous on HC...and litigation could be your next post away!

    Cheers!
