Mitsui Mining raises zinc price to record Y439,000

TOKYO, April 24 (Reuters) -
Japan's Mitsui Mining & Smelting Co. Ltd. (5706.T: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Monday it had raised its zinc price by 20,000 yen a tonne to a record 439,000 yen ($3,797) after the metal rose to a fresh all-time high in London.
Mitsui last revised the price on April 19, when it raised it by 9,000 yen to 419,000 yen.
Zinc, used as an anti-corrosive coating in galvanised steel, has been one of the strongest performers on the London Metal Exchange and has been hitting successive record highs this year.
On Friday, the benchmark three-month LME zinc contractclosed up $250 a tonne at $3,325, after vaulting to a fresh record at $3,360.
