An import tax can only hurt the USA.
People forget the US industrial might was built behind a tariff wall. It caused much political corruption and created significant economic rents for manufacturers.
Today, we have sabre-rattling by Pres Trump. Major trading partners are horrified. Their administrations are planning reprisal measures if tariffs are imposed. I hope this is a thought-bubble as a trade war can only reduce economic activity - from which an open, specialised economy like Australia (and it's businesses) would suffer greatly.
Impacts on ILU? Who knows!
