Yes, it isn't very bright to dismiss manufacturing in Australia. Manufacturing is a broad category and I would think that food, housing, and goods that are inputs into other important industry such as energy and mining are very important to the balance of payments and the broader economy. It is not good practce to outsource Food and Energy security, and that is before supply chain risk is even considered.
