Very much doubt that theory - there's plenty of stock around from which to borrow if one was so inclined.
More likely the same end of year selling pressure on a number of stock across the ASX. Happens every year with investors who have a capital gains tax issue - they take some losses to offset. A lot of stocks get killed in June and often resurrected in July.
