Names quote is from investopedia. But the refernece is about the gap being filled irrespective of of previous close price. If a stock trades from 42 c to 46c intraday but closes at 42. the trading between 42 and 46 has filled the gap. Ok the price opened at 46.5 next day so the gap is 0.5 (46 to 46.5) Whoopee but has since been filled.
