Reading between the lines Volt you appear to be saying some tax increase on miners is OK. I think that's the problem - where does one draw the line? Also, why single them out? What about other businesses like banks, large retailers, etc.? It would make far more sense, be fairer and simpler if the government simply increases taxes slightly across the board. Howard reduced income taxes considerably during the boom times when the budget was in huge surpluses. It stands to reason they should do the opposite in bad times when the government spends more that it receives. The gravy train has to make stops on the way.
