Moderation has flipped into censorship

I had a post moderated today - courteously but in my opinion (I admit I am subjective) in an appauling display of judgement by the moderator.

I understand that moderators don't know all the history of all the threads and that they generally respond to what is brought to their attention when the report button is used and that they then make personal judgement call.


And I.like everyone else, can make poor judgement calls from time to time too.

But HotCopper moderation has in my opinion became far more chancey - far less well done - than it used to be done.

Its flipped over into being censorship. I would recommend moderator reviewers and even the owners of the site who might even be mainly concerned with profit not free speech if those two things come into conflict - even a profit oriented rather than free speach - free ideas expressing owner should doubt when the too much stupid moderation occurs - people give up on forums when the moderation become so shallow - so easily manipulated.

An internet discussion site about stocks I submit has a social duty to allow discussion that is not popular. Otherwise it becomes part of the generation of mania bubbles.

The mods in not being adequately (I know that's always a question of degree - they can't have all knowledge of all context - of all that has been said before and around related topics by participants - but they can exercise so caution and no censer stupidly. In a thread headed banter and general discussion - making a comment to make space or to clarify other comments isn't going off topic - and pointing out something in defence of one's own approach or clarifying when one is being misrepresented isn't attacking other posters.
