Magistrate Kay Robertson told the court: "There is a risk of flight, there is a risk of further offending," but granted bail with a $40,000 surety.
She said that risk could be reduced with strict bail conditions, including that Hassan report to police three times a week.
The magistrate also banned him from driving or being in the front passenger seat of a vehicle.
"That includes on private property and it includes if the car is parked," she told the court.
The case returns to court in September.

Two daughters are distraught, one travelling in the car behind, witnessed her mother's death. One woman 56, the other 60, both friends and returning from a shared social meet-up together.

Go figure.

A similar case was given bail and he has absconded and police are still searching for him. He is believed to have left the country.b

I'm not aware of any case where someone charged with causing death in a car crash has been refused bail, including where the defendant was intoxicated. Having the name Mohamad is not grounds for refusing bail.
