Timmo what sort of bullshit conspiracy theories have you been subscribing to?
Lynas is getting shorted because like any other stock in its position there is little new information coming out and high risks attached to its share price.
It sounds to be like MS is managing a Rare Earth's investment portfolio and doing a fairly good job of it at the moment.
Until the malaysian headache has been cleared and major positive news breaks, people will continue to short Lynas, thats just life, if you cant handle the risk dont hold the stock.
