    The polls surprise me, doesn't seem right.

    When we had the republic referendum there was a general consensus that the majority would have voted in favour of a republic if the head of state was elected by voters. That is why Howard didn't allow that option.

    I heard that there was a general directive that the media didn't bring up the subject of a republic during this period out of respect.

    Any way I look forward to the republic issue coming up again, there was a bit of a consensus that it would not while the queen was still on the throne. Now with chucky on the throne, it's a good time to revive the debate
