No I'm not brainwashed and it's not a tax any more than a fishing licence is a tax.
If you are getting a cleaner environment then you aren't paying for nothing. If you are promoting the development of green technologies that might one day replace fossil fuels then you are not paying for nothing. Burning fossil fuels is not a long term option even apart from the pollution.
If you are suffering from paranoia about a new world order I would see someone about that lol.
