Agree with you wholeheartedly. Although there has been a lot of govt intervention (and bankruptcy news etc), it is all either used as an excuse for price movements or otherwise just shows up as small blips in the overall trend.

For instance, I can't see anything unusual in the price moves on the chart I posted earlier or on daily or weekly charts of any of the indices. So IMO the market is just doing as it wants to do and ignoring any attempts to change its course.
