Although I understand the logic of what you say... personally I often use the futures to give a good indication of where the close MIGHT be...

I do beleive, except in very strong trending situations, that often enough A high future value before open results in a close lower and vice versa... Just personal observation but have found it handy when used in correlation with support resistance and strength of current moves
