In the headlines - A mixed bag. Rate cut hopium back in play, with signs of an economic slowdown being strong enough to keep the Federal Reserve on track to continue cutting interest rates. US markets in the green following the September jobs report, which showed 136,000 jobs were added. The unemployment rate dropped to 3.5 pct, its lowest level since December 1969. The likelihood of a rate cut dropped to 78 pct after the jobs numbers, according to the CME FedWatch Tool. It was reported that 'In a sane world, the Fed would probably put rates up if they just looked at the job numbers', however, the world isn't sane at the moment, and the trade war is dampening global economic growth, and the trade war can't be fixed with rate cuts alone. DOW up 1.42 pct, SNP also up 1.42 pct and Canada (resource driven), up less at .49 pct. VIX down 10.88 pct to 17.04. The clocks changed over the weekend, so I get to drink beer one hour earlier. Have a nice day.

Today in 1959, the 'Far side of Moon' was seen for the 1st time, courtesy of  the USSR's Luna 3 space probe. Of poor quality compared to later efforts, the images generated much excitement around the world at a view never previously seen by human eyes. Twenty-nine photos were taken by a specially designed AFA-E1 camera and immediately transmitted back to earth. The images were later published in an atlas by the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1960, and revealed a landscape quite different from the near side facing earth. The surface was far more pock-marked, with chains of craters, hundreds of kilometers wide and without the maria (plains) so common on the near side. Yes, the Far side of the Moon is sometimes called the Dark side of the Moon, and a colony on the moon would be a pretty cool thing, especially on the dark side.
