Agree, the inference is there, but with plausible deniability too. Maybe the AFR wouldn't run it after they got burned on the TPD deal leak, who knows.
The article hinges on whether HPL holds none, some, or maybe lots, of STX. Anyone truly curious could head to the registry and see for themselves, or purchase a full copy and have it emailed to them. I'm not that curious.
