I guess my uneducated opinion is that the geopolitical factors here made a lot of their Mongolia ventures a much much higher risk. It was a good move to explore back in Australia considering this.

Mongolia has a history of corrupt government and having to appease some extremely difficult neighbors. Both of whom throw their weight around, starting wars.

Inversely though, it may prove to help the case for domestic gas products in Australia. Less reliance on China for... Well everything is good for domestic ventures.

Again, uneducated half assed opinion though. Regardless of the success of the pilot well and their current activity in Mongolia, the political risks are exceedingly high right now. Especially for foreign companies in a country that is land locked between two unstable world powers.
