I have had enormous amounts of experience with herbicides, groupings, trials, resistance, rotations etc.
There is nothing new in that article. Everyone's point of view depends on how little or how much they know about these things and whether they jump at their own shadow.
As for GM. Man has been cross breeding and modifying animals and plants for hundreds of years. Nature has been doing it forever.
When nature does it, that's ok, but when man does it, it is the end of the world. There are a lot of people out there that need modifying IMO..
