As the weather is rubbish and due to Disco Stus interest in Gaps and following on the previous gap discussion I wrote a macro to detect daily gaps and calculate how long it takes in trading days to completely fill. I have only classified the gaps as up or down.
I ran it on the following stocks for the last 10 years with the results shown
Everything is in Trading days except for the %Filled
Mean and Std are the average and standard deviation time to completley fill the gap for the data.
#Up #Down %Filled MeanUp StdUp MeanDown StdDown
BHP 481 392 96 34 111 21 63
NAB 194 194 97 20 81 28 82
TLS 79 96 95 18 62 39 88
RIO 485 399 96 76 223 23 78
NCM 301 240 96 19 54 18 46
I could probably do some more filtering/classification and removal of outliers but the sun is coming out. Below is BHP
I never doubted you Wayward!
Of course just looking at the above charts you can see that most of the gaps get filled.
