If it is for a feature film / tv series it is very common in the industry for an animation studio such as Zac to create some concept animations to try and win a job from a client. The brief may have been sent to several animation studios to see what they come up with (sometimes this is done for little to no money initially).
They can then take these concepts to movie studios to try and secure funding for a full feature film. These animated films cost a lot of money to make, look at Angry Birds (US$80 million) I doubt Yowie will be funding a feature film by themselves.

It may also simply be just to have all the characters created in 3D so if they need them for future tv / marketing campaigns they are ready to go.

Also don't assume it never went any further, the concept process for something like this may take years. Just because there has been no further videos for 4 months doesn't mean it's still not in the works.
