I went into Myers Garden City (WA) yesterday, my first visit in about 3 years. Considering all the negative press Myer has had over the last 12 months I could not believe very little is being done to turn that negative message around. The first thing I noticed was how over crowed the stock was on the floor. Second how very little staff were around to help. There were a couple of staff members in high end brand name sections but they looked at me as if to say if you are not looking at my special stock don't talk to me. I found the "Reserve" brand I usually buy but no staff attending that area. Heaps of stock but little variety my size - I am a 36 inch which is very common - however most items I wanted to buy did not have any 36 but heaps of 38 and 40's. It took me 10 minutes to find some one to help me to see if there were any 36inches out back to be told "No all our stock is on the floor" - Yes it looks like that as well. So the stock buyers have let people down my size and over bought the large sizes. While I was there I was planing to buy half a dozen "Reserve" T-shirts. They always use to have a good rang of T-shirts - but all they had was two versions on display and I didn't like them. I went to pay - that was another 10 minutes waiting at the unmanned payment counter. A nice lady who served me in the end was alone onduty and had been returning stock to the racks - who said all the stuff I had brought was cheaper than the price tags. Surely if you mark down items you put signs up to let people know so they will buy them. I picture Myer don't have the staff to do any of the simple stuff. Conclusion: If I had wanted a Kmart experience I would have gone to Kmart. There is a lot of upside and potential profit in Myer for someone who want to start from scratch again and get the company running like a quality store again.
