More bad news for the Greens.

I just realized something.
If the two Greens finish in the bottom six in those states where they get two senators both will be facing three year terms. One will lose - they never win two seats in a normal election.
Thus they will lose a senator in Vic, Tas and WA at the 2019 election, leaving them with six if they win one in each state. (They might even lose their only NSW seat, she scraped in in 2010)

There is no constitutional rule that states how the 12 senators elected in a DD are divided into 3 and 6 year terms, it is a matter of convention. It is up to the senate to determine how, and general opinion is that it will be based on order of finish. LNP and Labor to me look like taking all of the first 6 spots but it's not available atm.

Greens are at a crossroad - they need to break out from winning one senate seat per election and threatening only in inner suburban Melbourne - they appear not to be able to.
