Lying is so easy for Bush after telling so many during the 'weapons of mass destruction' fiasco. He has now moved on to the economy crisis and used the same method of fear to prise money out of the suffering American public. With the republicans about to be trounced in the coming election, they are taking a lot of cash out of the door with them. The money just approved by Congress is going to the banks and then to the rich of America. Under the guise of toxic mortgages and scare of melt down, the money was taken like a lolly from a child. Buffett will be at the front of the queue to get cheap money from the banks to buy at the fire sales that are coming.
Notice how Buffett is buying into Goldman Sachs and GE, both sources of money when credit is ultra tight. He may be the only bidder at some of the fire sales to come of the blue ribbon companies of America. Notice how Rudd gave the money direct to the people affected, bypassing the banks; not so in America, friends first. Americas image of a democratic, free country is tarnished for ever, not much different to some denigrated countries in Africa, Eastern Europe and South America. As for a bottom to this market, I would pick a saucer, painfull, bottom over 2 years.
