If the court case proceeds there must be reasonable chance of success either by trial result or tactical settlement at some point during proceedings. If by trial result, there is legal precedent thereafter.
The lifetime costs of supporting 2,000 largely unemployable, unhappy people would be a horrific financial and social burden on Australia. A brokered deal with a third party country to accept them and for them being willing to go would be multiples more than any negotiated compensation package that saw them return willingly to their birth countries.
