More copper hits on the way

FRONTIER Resources has landed a 48.5 metre intersection of 1.02 grams per tonne gold and 0.38% copper in the first hole of the drilling campaign at its Andewa copper-gold project in Papua New Guinea’s West New Britain Province.

The interval was part of a broader 93.2m intersection grading 0.78gpt gold and 0.3% copper starting from a depth of 166.6m.

Another 1520.9m of drilling has been completed in four other holes.

While assay results are pending, Frontier said there was visible copper and molybdenum mineralisation in the drill core.

The rig was recently moved to another site in the project and drilling of the sixth hole is underway.

Frontier has 10,000m of drilling planned in this campaign.

Managing director Peter McNeil was involved with development work for the giant Lihir gold mine in PNG and previously said Andewa’s geological and structural location was “conceptually” identical to Lihir’s.

Frontier shares are up half a cent or 3.7% to 14c this morning.
