The wheels of justice turn slowly.
Presumably it's required that judges order detention now rather than representatives of Parliament to keep sweet with our constitution around people that no other country will accept.

    Labor responds:

Immigration Minister Andrew Giles told question time Labor had sought to keep the individuals in immigration detention.
    ......
“We also have now four layers of protection, including stringent visa conditions, electronic monitoring and curfew arrangements, as well as preventative arrangements.”
Mr Giles said the newly established Community Protection Board was responsible for providing advice on management of the cohort of former detainees. He said the new rules were based on the Coalition era High-risk Terror Offender Regime.
Under those rules, it took more than three years for the first order to be issued.
Mr Giles said 10 months was the shortest period of time for an order to be issued.
The department’s information showed 60 of the former detainees were currently residing in NSW, 40 in Victoria and 20 in both Queensland and Western Australia.
