When there’s been a tragedy in the past the Head of state could normally have expected a boost in popularity. People gather around their leaders, think GW Bush on 911. The image of him standing on the pile of rubble at ground zero saying “..and the people that did this will be hearing from all of us” was inspiring stuff that sent his polls through the roof.
Trumps had a real opportunity here. He could have used this virus to unite the country against a real enemy instead he whinged about the media. He could’ve stood at the helm and taken charge instead of boasting about his ratings. He could’ve offered heart felt empathy to the US instead of blandly reading off a script with the enthusiasm of a bored teenager.
Trump has shown the world his pettiness, incompetence and dishonesty.
