this news is like heavy man!
While we are talking about a well drilled to a Total Depth of 6km below sea level these results are still heady stuff.
I wait with baited breath for the release of TLW oil reserves figures for the combined Enyenra & Owo Oilfields, [which are like talking to each other man!] and they are indicating an "oil column of around 600 meters" and crikey it extends for 21km or 13 miles north to south.
Ghana Proves up More Enyenra Oil Pay
Date: Friday, March 16, 2012
Partners on the Deepwater Tano License offshore Ghana have recorded another successful appraisal well with the drilling of the Enyenra-4A well. During drilling the well encountered oil in very good quality sandstone reservoirs. Good evidence of communication with the Owo-1 discovery wells and the Enyenra appraisal wells confirms the significant extent of the Enyenra light oil field.
The Enyenra-4A well was drilled to define the southern extent of the field. Results of drilling, wireline logs, samples of reservoir fluids and pressure data show that Enyenra-4A has intersected 32 meters of net oil pay. Pressure data from the oil leg has demonstrated that the oil is in static communication with the oil seen in the other wells in the field and indicate a continuous oil column of around 600 meters.
The Ocean Rig Olympia drillship drilled Enyenra-4A to a total depth of 4,174 meters in water depths of 1,878 meters. Wireline logging has been completed and injectivity tests are under way to provide important data for the design of the water injection system. On completion of operations, the well will be suspended for later use. The drillship will return at a later date to the Deepwater Tano block to perform a drill stem test on the oil zone in the Ntomme-2A well.
Partners on the Deepwater Tano License are Tullow Oil with 49.95%, Kosmos Energy with 18%, Anadarko Petroleum with 18%, Sabre with 4.05%, and GNPC with a 10% carried interest.
Commenting on the find, Angus McCoss, Tullow’s exploration director, said: “This bold step out is an excellent result which is further enhanced by the quality and thickness of the reservoirs found at this downdip location. Proving a 600m oil column over a distance of 21km with three appraisal wells is a significant achievement which was only possible through the use of highly refined geophysical techniques. The appraisal of the Enyenra field will now continue with the monitoring of the pressure gauges deployed in several wells to determine the level of dynamic connectivity within the system and to further refine the estimates of oil in place.”
Anadarko’s Sr VP, Worldwide Exploration Bob Daniels said: "With the success of the Enyenra-4A well, we've extended this high-quality oil accumulation more than 13 miles (21 kilometers) from north to south, indicating approximately 2,000 feet (610 meters) of continuous oil column. We've seen strong evidence of static communication among the wells in the field and plan to continue working to affirm connectivity, while advancing this future mega project toward a Plan of Development and sanctioning."
Darrell McKenna, COO for Kosmos, stated, "The Enyenra-4A well was a very positive result for Kosmos, as we confirmed a significant downdip extension of the field and encountered more net pay at this location than our pre drill expectations. We have now proved static communication in the reservoirs over 13 miles apart. Additional appraisal activities at the field will include the monitoring of pressure gauges, which have been deployed in multiple wells to determine dynamic communication. Success at Enyenra-4A further enhances the momentum behind our drive in submission of a plan of development.
