it was mentioned on the news the other day, that in real terms, the price of smokes has not gone up in several years. possibly there is the fear of the substitution effect - where people will seek out other drugs.
watso used to support a woman, who complained that she could not afford to go to the hair dresser (she had a part time income) - but could smoke a packet a day. from memory, the cost of a packet, at the time, was $10 - and oh, when the blame game was on, watso was also the reason why she could not afford a new pair of glasses - which was all rubbish, because she was saving thousands
