Enquiry for Tremain (interesting point about Capital Gains Tax, Matey) and anyone else knowlegable on Oz tax matters:
I'm a UK holder of BQT (and BIX) and am interested to learn a little about how your tax system works.
For example, here in the UK investors used to be able to (Revenue have stopped this now) 'bead and breakfast' shares, that is to sell the day before the tax year end (to get the benefit of any tax loss), and buy back the same shares the next day, thus minimising the risk of the shares increasing in value whilst not held. Is this still possible in Oz? Or has your Tax Man brought in a 'thirty day rule' as ours has here?
I would like to be able to relate the unusual trading patterns lately to Oz investors' to optimise their tax position.
All helpful info would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!
Sid
