Like I said you might be missing something

Nationalism is the expression of your own 'self interest' masquerading as national 'self interest'

you see they are two very different things

The analogy with our ancestors, forefathers etc is a good one

but don't confuse necessity with self interest

necessity born of the fact that the reality was even life could not be taken for granted

So self interest yes but in a totally different context
