I’ve been doing research on KOTH ug mine. Goes back to Feb 2004 when there was a failure of the east wall of the Tarmoola open pit mine. Tarmoola open pit was closed and sold to SBM in 2005. In Dec 2007 SBM reported a resource for Tarmoola of 2.1 Moz consisting of 58Mt @ 1.1 g/t. To my knowledge the Tarmoola open pit has never been reopened or mined. The 3.5 Mtpa processing plant on site was placed on C&M immediately after the wall failure. It was never restarted and sold by SBM in 2011 for $3 million. The King of the Hills UG mine was commissioned in 2011 and consisted of the UG component of the ore body beneath the Tarmoola open pit. Access to KOTH is at the base of Tarmoola open pit.
You’re probably asking what has this got anything to do with KOTH gold? Well, IMO, all reported resource/reserve when Red 5 bought KOTH was to do with KOTH UG mine. Tarmoola open pit is a separate resource/reserve entity. That could be 1.75 Moz of gold that has not been reported in the sale of KOTH to Red 5. This 1.75 Moz could be unlocked if Red 5 was to build a processing plant on site to process low grade ore. This does not include ore mined in bulk stoping of the present KOTH workings. Commissioning the old Tarmoola open pit would take a bit of work, but nowhere near the amount it would take starting an open pit mine from scratch.
