Some people think that they have just pulled this out of the hat to support a falling share price due to the downramping from Bioshares.
That is impossible. These experiments have to planned and executed over a time frame of weeks at the minimum, if not months. They have to obtain samples of resistant virus and you cannot just call for a delivery from the local "Viro-mart". "Quick the SP is falling, lets cobble together a quick experiment!"
Rather this is more evidence that they are planning to partner with Merck (probably) or Gilead.
As I have discussed before, this is a magnificent prospect.
For short term holders, this could mean further "bad news" as the release to the market is further delayed by trials of a combination of an integrase inhibitor and apricitabine.
However, if this scenario were to occur, then the research would be fully funded by Merck with likely hefty milestone payments to boot. The eventual combination pill would, I believe, change the face of HIV medicine.
It would be more powerful than anything else, by far, with very low side effects. It would be resistance proof for the forseeable future.
As India and China become wealthier and more able to afford up to date HIV treatment the market for HIV meds is only going to expand.
I will certainly be looking to accumulate between now and February when the 24 week data is presented to the CROI. I don't believe there will be much chance of getting back in at bargain prices after that.
