    The recent release of 2021 Census data revealed a shocking “one million homes were unoccupied”. This statistic sent housing commentators, government agencies and policymakers into a spin.     EY POINTS
    • The number of spare bedrooms increased from 12.7 million in the 2017-2018 financial year to 13 million in 2019-2020 financial year.
    • Two thirds of those were in households with a couple only, or a single person, and most of them own their own homes.
    • Encouraging empty nesters to downsize could alleviate the housing affordability crisis, experts say.
    Australia has 13 million spare bedrooms new data shows, and that number is set to grow thanks to an ageing population holding on to “empty nests” with little incentive to downsize.

    The number of spare bedrooms increased from 12.7 million in the 2017-18 financial year to 13 million in the 2019-20 financial year, according to the Survey of Income and Housing released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.”

    Just google it’s in the census and abs stats… whether the stats are right or wrong I don’t know if you don’t beleive them disproof it with your census
