Appen's decision not to release/restate financials has been interpretted as Appen having a lack of confidence in it's own forecasts, made earlier this year. Apparently, it is usual for a company to restate financials and forecasts during Investor conferences, to demostrate confidence in their own figures and to confirm to the market that they are on track and nothing has changed since the last announcement.
Appen didn't do this, so "already skittish investors" have taken this as a sign that Appen's forecasts may be further downgraded. We'll know on the 20th May.
