more legal advice needed please

I lent my van to a ?friend? and he had an accident.
It happend in 2003 and because the van had a bullbar it caused $2000+ damage but no noticable damage to the front of my van;so I was unaware of the accident.
A debt collector has just contacted me,working for the other party's insurance company who are trying to reclaim the money.
Now the thing is........the van was fully comp.insured
(and dispossed of in 2004).The driver of my van is bankrupt not working and on the dole..
(a)Should I claim off my insurance;prefer not to.
(b) Make an offer.
(c) Give the address of my erstwhile friend and forget about it.
(d) Or will I end up paying for it anyway and have caused my friend un necessary fear and worry.
