To get one's news online, reading them on a computer screen, is not "portable" in that you have to sit in front of it to read. Try reading the news on a computer screen for 30 minutes to an hour everyday and after awhile it will take some great enthusiasm for news and determination to be doing it everyday.
yes, we can read them on a laptop, but hey, you must have real good eye sight to do that day in and day out :-)
Online news reading on a computer screen is good if you just want to know "quickly" what is going in the world, meaning reading short news articles, but that is where the problem lies: a bit like watching the news on television, viz. brief and just a few seconds of news without much depth.
