BOYNE Valley gold miner Charlton Doblo is gearing up to find gold in the Norton Rd mine again.
The mine has produced more than 17,000 ounces of gold since it opened in the late 19th century but the last time it was operated was in 2006.
Mantle Mining Corp Ltd bought the mine off Norton Gold Fields in 2013 and, after three years of exploration and red tape, the company expects to start operating in April or May.
Mine manager Mr Doblo said he had been "flat out" for two years with amendments to the mining applications and government approvals.
"We've spent about $1million with approvals and exploration before we've turned a sod of soil," he said.
The latest amendment was for the mine to transport gold off the site instead of ore and dirt. …
