As I identify as a “Fisherman” I have a working knowledge of rope and have more experience in tangles and the joys of untangling knots than most people.

I find it amusing that many here suggest what you have suggested “Perhaps he’s giving the opposition enough rope”, obviously to hang themselves with?

Perhaps that is true but how much more rope do you think he needs to give them?
What other benefits could come from Dan holding off for another day, week or month?

If it is all lies, adding more rope just makes for a bigger tangle and the bigger the tangle the higher the chances for the person adding the rope to get hooked up in the tangle.
A smart person doesn’t leave the tangle, a smart person fixes the tangle before it causes them extra pain.
