what concerns me most about banks is many of them will have to take questionable assets back on to their balance sheets and raise their capital tier ratios to cover them.
in the case of american banks this figure is mooted to be somewhere between 250-400 billion dollars. where is this money to come from?
one "get out of jail free" card we have already seen in england where northern rock's assets have become government assets. in effect, socializing the losses
same thing will likely happen in america. no prizes for guessing that this equates to throwing kerosene on the inflation bonfire.
i'm happy to sell most bounces in the banking sector until i see their debt nightmare come to an end.
