This is not a 2 horse race moralitywise (what is the righting to do)
Politicians are granted trust by the electorate that they will do the right thing.
IMO, it is not the right thing to accept a donation from an unknown/unknowable
donor when that donor may have a vested interest, may be acting in the interests of a Foreign
Power, may be a Criminal or simply may be a business/businessman (likely) looking for quid pro quo
The intent of the politicians interests register is that such donations/interests are transparent
and if the PM neglects to qualify who this donor is and/or amend legislation to enable him to
do so then he is in breach of his duty of care, IMO.
Its as simple as that and those who cannot see the risk here are amoral, IMO.
Not alone are politicians expected to do the right thing, they also have to be see
as doing the right thing because they are law makers.
PS: IMO political donations of all sorts ought to be banned because they
have the potential to pervert democracy
