Not only will it make it cheaper for families, it will also make it cheaper for the government, with reduced subsidies being paid to centres.

The only savings to centres would be reduced payments for staff. Challenging to manage such a proposal. The sector is struggling to recruit and retain professionals, who are now accessing a teaching degree enabling them to teach age ranges 0-12 years, they are taking those qualifications into the primary education system. The government were shortsighted when developing the EYLF (Early Years Learning Framework), early education qualifications should be for 0-5 years only, then you will have educators who do want to work and stay in the sector.

There are many families who work part time and their children are attending care for eleven hours per day, the introduction of hourly rates would almost certainly be attractive financially to some families and would see fewer government subsidies claimed by centres. The savings to the government (taxpayers) would be a substantial amount of money. The fact is, very few children attend centres for the centres total hours of operation.

There was mention of this from the office of Federal Education Minister Simon Birmingham's office, some months back. I'll bear in mind that this is a share trading forum, and leave discussions of how, the implementation of this proposal would affect the education and care of children.

Next week will give us a clearer view of centre vacancies.
