Port a priority not a pipe dream

Plans by Aquila Resources and Fortescue Metals Group for a massive new Pilbara Port are heading in the right direction, says Dampier Port CEO Steve Lewis.
Aquila say a harbour at Anketell Point near Cape Lambert could be built to accommodate iron-ore producers whose projects won't ever see the light of day to a lack of space at Dampier and Port Hedland.
Steve Lewis reckons there's no doubt we will see another port built in the Pilbara.
But the Premier has rejected suggestions the Government would help fund a proposed new port.
FMG says it would seek financial assistance from the Government to develop the four-billion dollar project.
Colin Barnett says the Government won't be making any financial contributions.
"It's very unlikely the role of government in the Pilbara and the iron ore industry is to facilitate development to help make land available, create corridors to assist environmental approvals and planning changes and the like," said Mr Barnett.
"It is not the role or the ambition of this government to make direct capital contributions to private projects."
