My belief is , a bit of balance should be the order of the day.

By all means , pay off more debt, but also make the stock more attractive and your shareholders happy by paying some divvies, if a company can afford to do both then eveyone wins.

If a company can only afford to do one or the other then fine, that works too, but keep the lines of communication open with the shareholders about why.
