It is quite ironic that we cant compete with China in Aluminium
smelting (all about the cost of electricity) when we export the
coal & gas and bauxite to China in the first instance.
It seems silly in spending $1 billion in taxpayers funds to encourage
innovation. employ the Japanese & Germans to do that and
then ignore the obvious opportunities in processing our minerals
and thereby diversifying trade away from China.
Our chief economic problem and argueably our greatest soverign
threat is our growing economic dependance on China which is led
by a Communist Government.
