You are on the money LS. Off grid and Micro grid is soon to be the norm. The aging infrastructure of the national grid systems coupled with its exposure to extreme down time and failure in times of natural disaster and inability to economically Reach the outer reaches of settled life says it's a fast coming extinct Dinosaur.
Governments can't afford to under right it's upkeep anymore and utility owners can't cost in its proper upkeep and remain Commercial.
The Global capabilities model depends on growth. Growth and economic development can be achieved by industrialising more people in more countries. All the better to do it localizing the costs.
That door is unlocked by changing the energy model. Energy storage is the key to using alternate energy sources. It's as simple as that. And that is why to some extent this growth area receives subsidies to get it up and running and is likely to be impervious to down turns at least in the medium term.
I have used the term previously but echo it again. TNG is on a collision course to the perfect economic storm whereby as she comes on stream the demand will be at its peak.
It' matters not what is happening to the price of other commodities, in fact I will be bold enough to suggest that alternative energy movement has had a greater effect on say the spot price off uranium than Fukushima. Nuclear power plants up for upgrade are being mothballed rather than rebuilt. The gigawatt p/a increase in alternative energy is way ahead of 10 perhaps 50 new nuclear power plants being commissioned each year. Hence PDN slump. Emerging nations can now look at cost effective growth options area by erea and reduce terrorist exposure to boot. Bonus.
There are chapters in history where innovation or discovery excelerate change and we are staring another right in the face now. It's called the overhall of the energy supply network and the emergence or embracing of alternative sources on a micro scale.
Well wombat2 I hope like hell I got through this dyslexic rave in an understandable way. it's just my passion for the future of this great company and the connecting with many faceless friends that have come together to enjoy it coming together that excites me so. By the by my birthday has just ticked in as if you can't tell.!!!!!!!!
