Rudd wants to increase taxes (RSPT) so that he can reduce debt and deficit while increasing government spending.
While I am opposed to the RSPT in its current form, shocked at the stupid way they announced it and angry with the deceiptful and devisive way they are trying to sell it, it is nowhere near as dumb as Bush's approach.
i.e.: Cut taxes while increasing spending (mainly due to the Afghanistan and Iraq wars) and end up with higher debt and deficit.
