this is not at all surprising if cardiocel (or anyone) are to launch a product of substance in to valve repair, as aortic valves are by far the most commonly repaired/replaced valve in heart surgery. they exist in the highest pressure gradient (the left ventricle and systemic pressures) and wear out most commonly with age. Whilst there are many reasons to need an aortic valve replacement most are due to degeneration and as we the age the chances of that increase. Added to which repair is far preferable to replacement as (porcine)tissue valve replacement has limited life (approx. 6years) and mechanical valve requires lifelong warfarin with all its associated problems in the older age group.
If the lack of calcification shown in patch repair is replicated in valves than that is HUGE.
