I think he's saying it's just a psychological self-preservation mode of of thinking, not dissimilar to "If I haven't sold, I haven't lost it yet" - they're both just illogical points of view that make you feel comfortable in a trade but ultimately make absolutely zero difference to the trade (Although they will impact your psyche, for right or wrong)
