Not sure why you find this such a massive problem??

I would've thought that an E conveys the same message as 10 out of 100??......and an A at the Olympics is the same as a gold medal??....lol

I don't really understand exactly what issue they have with the marks thing, but I also don't understand what issue you have with the A - E gradings?? I certainly don't remember my marks from school....just remember that I did very well in some subjects and not as well in others.

I notice my daughter doesn't get marks from the private school that she attends in Brisbane, except for the individual tests during the semester. But as far as overall marks for the term report it's an A,B,C,D or E grading and it all seems much the same to me. For instance, I hear her say how she really wants to try to get an A instead of a B+ etc, or an A instead of an A-. Same as always....I would've thought?

Let's not be too critical of our educators. After all, they have one of the toughest jobs in our society trying to deal with kids from some very unfortunate backgrounds. It is obviously a priority not to discourage and hurt these kids after they have had little opportunity to learn the way others have.

People love to blame teachers for every shortcoming that their child has in learning. 99% of the learning problems that I saw in my time as a teacher were as a result of parental shortcomings, or the fact that the kid just wasn't academically inclined.

Teachers are very seldom to blame. Sure, a child may strike a very average teacher in primary school in one particular year, but the chances are that the situation will be rectified in the following year, and let's face it, primary school work is so revisionary by nature.

By high school, kids learn if they want to learn, and most of that attitude comes from home.

Sorry to digress, but these people who want to blame teachers for all of their children's problems are just looking for a scapegoat on 99% of occasions.
